22/10
Over the last few weeks we have talked about the possibility of a Quickscope LAN. What we are going to do is use this page as a way of keeping everyone in the loop of any progress being made and/or any important dates over the next 6 – 7 months.
The current plan, is to hold a few small community driven LANs per year starting in 2011 focusing on 100+ players, a version like StratLAN, but more dedicated to a one game tournament for all the communities in Counter Strike Source. We recognise the difficulties in running LAN’s however we feel it is viable, and we are dedicated in making sure a LAN can be run. In May, Davros & Gumpster will be looking at possible venues, we have already had a look at several possibilities, we even pinpointed a pitch perfect venue, which was in the heart of Birmingham, 10 minutes walk from Birmingham New Street Station, and had a lot of hotels in proximity to the place, however we were later informed that it is a venue used on Sunday’s for a local church. Obviously there are a lot of venues to explore in the Birmingham area. We want to make a successful LAN, and above all else, an enjoyable LAN for everyone involved.
We have been contacted by various people who have access to networking equipment, and other neccessary items we need for a LAN. If you feel you can contribute to our LAN in any shape or form, even from helping out with setting up, then please could you let us know via emailing gumpster[at]pro-css[dot]com & davros[at]coltkillaz[dot]co[dot]uk. This can really help if we have a team we can depend on.
If you are a community and interested in coming to our LAN, then fantastic as we would like to get you on board and help us out. Our overall aims are to make information avaliable for all involved and this will include Community Leader meetings online on mumble/vent and open meetings in the run up to the LAN. Whilst we know and understand that talking about a LAN, and doing one is completely different, we will be holding a private community LAN at the back end of 2010 to try and get a jist of what we are doing, before our attempt at doing a more serious one in 2011 and to avoid any issues that may crop up. What we would like to know from the community is what kinda dates people would prefer throughout the year, would you like an early LAN in March/April time, or a nice Summer LAN in June/July/August time, or maybe a late ish LAN in November/December time?
We would like to also keep the LAN as relatively cheap as possible, whilst this is said, remember if we want to make this a “booming” success we need to think about at least breaking even, so whilst the first LAN maybe expensive (looking at £40 a head), we would like to try and keep your costs down as much as possible to ensure you have a fun filled time at LAN and not having to worry about how much you are spending for a ticket. This is strictly a Non Profit LAN, and will be looking at furthering any profits made, by placing it back into a prize purse, and/or future LAN’s for other gaming scenes and/or our very own.
In May/June 2010, we will be organising a small gathering of already offered “helpers” who would like to help out in this project, this gathering will be offline, and will be at a location of Quickscope’s choosing, whilst remaining to be a productive gathering, we will make sure that any helpers who are involved and ready to come along, have a few beers, chill out and get to know each other slightly better.
The current consideration’s would be Friday as a set up day, Saturday/Sunday being Tournament days. If there is anything else you or your community would want to see at Quickscope LAN, then please you should contact the above emails. We are undecided on BYOC/Non BYOC however we are leaning towards BYOC currently.
BYOC/Non Byoc
Low Price – Between £20 – £40
2 – 3 day event
16 Teams Max
Small Prize Purse (enough for a team to make a small profit)
Fun, Carnage, Drink (but sensible and having a fun loving LAN)
Central Location (as much as possible)
Community Driven
If you do want to help us out, then as I said above, please send us an email. We will try our utmost to make sure everyone knows of our plans, and we will try not to keep anyone out in the dark. Make this your LAN, and help us!
