Thursday night had plenty of controversy, plenty of matches, plenty of arguments, oh and plenty of entertainment in game and on the IRC Channel. What more could you ask for in a tournament. It was a day of heartbreak for a few teams, and continued joys for another team. Lets take a look at detail on what happened on Day 3.
Day 3 is a big stage for a lot of teams, considering next week on Thursday, has all the finals running one after the other, to make it a day of prize winning glory. This time next week, we will know which 4 teams will be allowed free entry to the tournament at i40, and to also bypass the group stages of the tournament. It will be a tough win for any of the teams, but steadily some teams have been doing incredibly well to try and reach the prize winning places.
Lets take a look at what happened with the games that unfolded on Thursday night.
Lower Bracket Round 5: 6pm
Adversity 1 – 0 RAGE.ENUZI
In this game, whilst the match resulted in a default, there was a lot of controversity surrounding it. The game should have been played in the previous week, in which RAGE were in Croatia for GamersJect LAN, and therefore they asked Adversity for a reschedule, in which they agreed, and stated that Monday was the best time to play. Both teams agreed Monday at 9pm, unfortunately for Rage, their problems in Croatia got worse, as the majority of them didn’t get back until 10pm on Monday night, Adversity were ready to take a default until Damage arranged another time to play, which was Thursday at 6pm, both teams agreed to this and were happy to play. By 6pm Thursday, Rage were all ready to go, and Adversity couldn’t muster the full 5 on for the night, suffice to say they managed to get the default. The reasons behind this was that Damage had bent over backwards for Rage and it ended up in a heated affair, and Rage hadn’t really talked to Damage about sorting out the match on the Monday night, like throwing Damage a message to say “we would be late, blah blah blah”. Anyway Adversity got the default, and Rage felt hard done by, unfortunately the rules for the online tournament of the iSeries does state quite clearly no reschedules, but the admins had been allowing them if the other team agreed to a reschedule.
Lower Bracket Round 6: 7pm
Adversity 16 vs 8 Rasta.
Rodcad Gaming 13 vs 16 eXelon.ACD
ICENET-gaming 0 vS 1 Redstars-Gaming
VERYGAMES 16 vs 8 H2k
In the following games, Adversity managed to beat the final Rasta team left in the competition, by beating them comfortably 16 – 8. Meanwhile Rodcad Gaming, gave all of what they had but it wasn’t enough against the formiddable eXelon Academy, they went down to eXelon.ACD 16 – 13. ICENET for some strange reason did not show to their game against Redstars-Gaming, whilst VeryGames continued to dismantle teams in front of them, by taking down H2K and knocking them out of the tournament 16 – 8.
Upper Bracket Round 6: 7pm
FM! Toxic 8 vs 16 fish123
OX.Enermax 16 vs 12 DSRack
TLR 16 vs 3 MOD.#5*
NeCKBeARdS 16 vs 9 eXelon Gaming
Well we knew the FM Toxic result from the previous week, however with tuscan removed from the competition due to unforseen bugs with the map, all teams had the issue of having to play a different map, which was de_nuke, OX had little trouble as they managed to sweep aside DSRack 16 – 12, TLR dominated the remaining MOD team in the competition, by taking them down 16 – 3, Renegade was disappointed after the match as he didn’t grab a 5 man against TLR. Meanwhile NeCKBeARdS, managed to grab a really surprising result against one of the better teams, which was eXelon Gaming, they took apart the finnish side in some fashion, producing some brilliant displays from Whindanski & msk.
Lower Bracket Round 7: 8pm
Adversity 6 vs 16 eXelon Gaming
Redstars-Gaming 5 vs 16 DSRack
VERYGAMES 16 vs 5 FM! Toxic
eXelon.ACD 16 vs 0 MOD.#5*
The lower bracket continued to run as normal, and 8pm kicked off the second round of games, where a few teams were on top form again. The loser’s from the Upper bracket joined the teams who were progressing in the lower bracket, 2 teams from each the upper and lower brackets, managed to progress further than this round, in what could be a telling round for the iSeries CS:S Tournament in August at i40. Adversity, despite their earlier performance against Rasta. meant a better opponent in eXelon, who couldn’t be stopped, eXelon Gaming were on form and Adversity were not going to stop them, eventuall winners of a comfortable 16 – 6 game. Redstars despite their early rest in the night couldn’t find the right hitboxes, and managed to get easily swept aside by DSRack. VeryGames managed to prove why they are the Number 1 team in Europe by continuing their top team smashing, and managed to beat Fragmasters Toxic in convincing fashion, 16 – 5. Toxic now are completely out of the tournament. MOD 5Star continued the traditional MOD way of life, play a top team, put a little extra effort against them, do ok, and then follow up in the next match by being completely smashed. The worst beating of the day, and 5Star now crash out of the tournament.
Upper Bracket Round 7: 9pm (& Sunday 25th 9pm)
OX.Enermax 16 vs 11 fish123
NeCKBeARdS 13 vs 16 TLR
Semi Final stage in the Upper Bracket, and things are starting to seriously heat up, OX Gaming took on the might of fish123 which is Weber’s mix team, the game was controversial in itself, as there were 4 server crashes in the match at different points of the game, one being on the final round. The server crashes were down to zBlock, with the defuse feature that they had added in, the majority of servers all night had kept themselves going, but this match caused so many issues, the last round was 15 – 11 at the time to Ox, 2 players of OX were well on their way of defending the bomb against the CT from Fish, the CT was flashed and as he went to defuse, he was getting shot, and the server decided to crash. It brought along a period of uncertainty between the two teams, and again admins had to settle it. Luckily enough biggie was on the server spectating the match and had a good eye on what was going on, after going over all the facts, OX were awarded the last round to take the match, but Weber and fish123 were furious over the whole spectacle that had unfolded before their eyes. Whether things could have been different, remains to be seen, but all we know is OX are through to the upper bracket final where they meet the winners of TLR & NeCKBeARdS. Once again another set of problems was presented to the admin team, NeCKBeARdS had contacted the admin team the night before stating that 2 players were off to work at 9, for a nightshift, and needed a reschedule against whoever they were playing. Usual procedure was “as long as your opposition agree”, in which TLR players wanted to play but their manager was advising against playing, and opted for a default, the reason being for “free entry to the iSeries”. Anyway, after more talking between the two sides, eventually after an hour, TLR & NeCKBeARdS agreed to Sunday 25th July at 9pm. The game itself was another close encounter, and NeCKBeARdS could have been wondering what “might of been” if they had been hitting the right spots correctly. The match went on and TLR were looking more comfortable whilst NeCKBeARdS struggled to give TLR a hard time, they eventually went down 16 – 13.
Lower Bracket Round 8: 9pm
eXelon.ACD 10 vs 16 eXelon Gaming
VERYGAMES 16 vs 6 DSRack
eXelon Academy met their main team eXelon Gaming, it was a match that was primed to be the “apprentice vs the master”, a match which could tell everyone how good this Academy team really are, and could they challenge top teams in Europe. Well the match was full of finnish banter (none of which I understood) but the Academy team put up a really good fight against their friendly rivals, and unfortunately went down 16 – 10. Meanwhile that French Train, VeryGames managed to beat another team who were considered to be main contenders of the free entry tickets to i40, but VeryGames hit another gear and managed to beat DSRack with ease 16 – 6. Dominance of the online tournament for VeryGames, their next match maybe slightly more tough, but they will be ready.
All demo’s can be found on Multiplay’s FilePlay.net, just search for the game and it will be there, Semi-Finals of the Lower Brackets continue on Wednesday Night along with the Upper Bracket Final between TLR & OX-Gaming, matches will be 7, 8 & 9, with all the remaining finals including the Grand Final of the tournament on Thursday night at 7, 8 & 9pm.
