Today is the turn to probe the members of Twisted Play, so lets look through their memories

So it is Wednesday (Thursday really) and we are now into our 3rd day of 5 of our Twisted Play week, in the special “Community Spotlight” series that takes a look at different communities for a week at a time with 5 different articles & 5 different perspectives of the community. The third day brings a look at the general view from the most loyalist of members along with the most committed of members and their views of the community from the inside. What I have done is posted a thread on the forums, and basically asked as many members to stick down their fondest memories of Twisted Play, and a few pictures & videos and things that makes their community what it is.

For everyone on the outside of the vicious Twisted Play circle, you can see these are fun loving guys who go around their day to day business with a smile on their faces. However is it like that every day on the inside. Twisted Play regularly organise piss ups, trips away, LAN crap, and nights out, and some of their members share these memories in different ways with the wider community, so lets have a look and see what each member has said.

Osh writes:

I had heard about TwistedPlay before as at the time they were running an invite league which was featuring some of the best teams in Europe at the time but I didn’t really know much more than that, then I just got myself into mixing with the likes of Aveng, Se, Tris, Gomez and decided they were a great bunch so joined up with them, this was after I’d stopped playing intensely I think it was at the end of my first year of uni I joined up with TwistedPlay, then we all hardcored for th summer before going back to our uni’s/jobs and from then on I just felt part of the TwistedPlay family, since then though we have a nice little philosiphy that you don’t really experience the real TwistedPlay till you go to lan. My first Lan with TwistedPlay was i33 when me and Chris ‘Krys’ Hipkiss decided to spur of the moment drive down…Think Krys went on a budget of £90…£40 of which he used to pay entry haha. After i33 I knew I would be with TwistedPlay for the long run and all these years later I’m now plugging away helping TwistedPlay grow and continue and I fucking love every day of it.

My favourite memory of TwistedPlay….Oh there are so many…a lot that can’t be told as well haha. I’m gonna have to go with I33 and the infamous Bulldog Incident… Me,Weirdo,Kate and a few others were drinking late into the night [standad TwistedPlay] and Bulldog was sharing a room with us, he came in and passed out on the bed, so were all there having a laugh and then Bulldog starts speaking in his native tongue…we had no idea what it was, so I christened it ‘Switzanese’ So me and Scott start messing about with him just doing stupid boying things, eventually it dies down and Kate decides to go to bed…Scott then comes up with the great idea to TeaBag him, so I grab my camera [which I always have] and jump up to film it…As I jump up I catch my leg on something and faceplant the bed with Bulldog on….The bed then goes SMASH as it crumbles. Bulldog is somehow till asleep while me and Scott are looking at each other thinking WTF! So were panicing trying to decide what to do, so we did the mature thing and fully snapped off the leg, stuck a condom on it and stuck it in Bulldogs mouth!

bluef0x had this to share:

Even though I haven’t been a part of the TwistedPlay community for very long, I still remember the first time I came across them at i31, my very first LAN. I remember being so nervous because the only person I knew at the whole event was Ducky who went to my school. I sidled up to my seat with my laptop and miniature optical mouse and remember the disbelief from several people that I played on this setup! I met Weirdo and Kate and a few others and remember Weirdo sneaking me apple sours!

It wasn’t until 3 years later that I joined the community properly though, I was in Elite Clan Killers (eCK) until it disbanded and due to my university degree I didn’t have the time to practise with the team anyway. My experience with “gamer girls” who weren’t actually decent gamers at all and didn’t take the game seriously left me apprehensive of all girls’ teams, however after being invited into PMS within the TPlay community I saw some familiar faces, namely Lego and Abiii, that I had mixed with before and it turned out that all the girls were at a similar level and got on really well, which is what makes a good team. I am still to have a LAN with my new team, but I will be attending i40 with them where I know there will be some guaranteed good times had.

My favourite memory (so far) would have to be the TP@TP event where we went to Thorpe Park and had loads of fun over a weekend. “I’m on a boat!” blaring and Osh hanging out of a car window alerted me to my ride with Aveng, D2K and the afore mentioned Osh, where we then travelled to Kate and Stew’s house and had some amazing food and chilled with a game of Articulate, which was pretty epic. The following morning we headed to Thorpe Park and after meeting up and going on some rides we managed to swindle fast track tickets onto the latest ride Saw where the standard queue was 90minutes long… Ben0’s hilarious complaint to the Thorpe Park staff while Saw broke down made the small delay fly by, the email announcing his divorce due to the terrible experience at the theme park. We went out to Old Orleans for dinner in the evening and then had an eventful night out at Flares. When we returned to Greg’s (Aveng) house Ben0 passed out on the sofa, so me and Maria (Lego) took it upon ourselves to slather him in makeup that would do Lady Ga Ga proud. We awoke to sounds of screaming as Ben cleansed his eyeballs with face wash and then had a trip to Tesco’s to pick up some food for our amazing barbeque at Greg’s house. All in all, an amazing experience and for those who weren’t there, as Abi would say “UNLUCKY!”.

Here are some of the pictures from the weekend that sum it up quite well!

Where the hell do I begin? I’ve been here half a decade! (well forums at least, stopped being active in late 2008/early2009).

Seriously, I might as well be furniture or replaced by an automatic sarcastic response.

Errrr…. first memories were just public servers back when Mez didn’t even have a PC to run CSS and he was just the mysterious RCON text reply leader who recruited people. Things obviously built on from there as Mez got some free servers for us to use as publics where we naturally started developing teams between us for some shockingly bad war clans, naturally some people got a lot better and that was the basis for how we got where we are now as more people joined us as the happy go not-so-lucky bunch at lans.

Fondest LAN memories is far easier. Twistedplay Ahoy at i27 savaging the local Sainsburys in pirate hats with cutlasses to buy as much alcohol as we could load into Jamez’ car (Miyagi’s mate as I recall), Weirdo being chased by security for an entire weekend, having to carry a passed out Oatsie into my tent at i34 on the EAS night (whilst carrying a very drunk Weirdo on the other arm), Loth buckaroo at i28 (the video is still kicking around somewhere).
Gaming memories…errr Ahoy knife rushing Planet6 and Zboard (who were 3rd and 1st seeds at lan) and actually getting someone each time, and doing the Tusken raider celebration from our seats as loud as possible. Ahoy in the Battlefield 2 tourny…Jeep artillery where in 2 consecutive group games we did a helicoptor jeep kill (taking out their chopper with a jeep in mid air) and crushing the one man on the point with a jeep again.

Tbh if you REALLY want an article you’re going to need to take a drill to Weirdo’s head to mine all the fantastic stories he’d have at lan if he could remember them

Zoob another member added:

Pretty Much Spence’s first paragraph for my first memory…

Best memory, short of not being active on the forums for a good while… Yea WoW… typical…

BUT, aside from my crowning glory in the BF2 tournament at i27 by absolutely annhilating “ONE” of Dignitas (#1 in Europe at the time) members on a blackhawk rush to there Main Base to shortly die after and lose the match. Not to mention running on a crayola PC and constantly DC’ing during group games. We could of bloody qualified!

Also have to had a 4 day day bender with Scott (weirdo) where he went Yellow and I was hallucinating… I like to call it Micronaps, courtesy of Freddy Krueger 2010!

There are quite a few more, any LAN I’ve been to I’ve had a blast, generally everyone is awesome etc etc.

I couldn’t be assed to elaborate but heh, I added my bit.

AttackRabbit sid this about Twisted Play:

got given Half Life 2 as a leaving work present…..turned out to come with counterstrike source….fired it up and selected a server at random…didnt like it, selected another and it was TwistedPlay, think it was just after the first public TP servers went up. Been around since then (5 years since i last worked so its about that long since i found TP) Only been to I28 to meet up, but each time an I-event comes up me and dazzlepants make plans to go but dont go..im sure we will again at some point.
Played very briefly in TP-NPC with mez, miyagi and some others and also played a game or 2 in Ahoy as well as attempting to run TP-Stoned, but being stoners we failed to show up at the same time for practice or matches ^^
Greatest memory of TP? hmmmm no idea, hasnt been anything particularly great recently, and anything that may have previously qualified is lost in the foggy depths of my mind….probably something along the lines of when there was a full server evey evening and I actually knew who the TP people were

D2K spoke his mind:

I’d been playing CSS for years already and had attended LANs but uni life / work meant keen practice had to be put on the backburner, but I was missing how much fun the iseries had been. One day coming up to i33 I saw a mix team needing +1, consisting of ck, renegade, woLf and… gom8z! Having heard of the names, and thinking this could be a good laugh, I asked if they were still searching and naturally when such a huge name in the scene contacted mez he dropped all the other noobs trying to apply and promptly picked up dave2k destroyer of public.

Our matches went well, causing online heroes to ragequit practice games when we were smashing them left right and centre, and topping the group after being 14-6 down against rasta on nuke we came back to win 16-14. Ran into our first problem with an extremely unlucky game against Alternate Attax, losing 16-7 really doesn’t tell how close it was with so many 1v1s and 2v2s going their way rather than ours, it could have been a much closer scoreline or a shock upset as they drastically underestimated us and our “mix tactics” paid dividends.

The social side of i33 was the best through, on the saturday night with other members of our mix having gone out to get stoned I asked when tony was up to and he suggested coming out for some drinks. Soon as we got to the hotel however, I realised I’d grabbed the wrong bag from the red room (hurridly in order to avoid the smell of piss and sweaty gamers) which had just spare cables in it, leaving me stuck wearing a logitech shirt, prime for clubbing. Cue a quick call back to osh at the venue to look for a pink suitcase, and my first memory of meeting mr vaughan is him running into the hotel lobby holding a pair of my boxers, some socks and a shirt and going “Who the fuck is D2K?” Two years later and we’re moving in together to create the ultimate gaming / poker household, happy days! <3 TP

Boostey shared his views:

Well where do i begin..

First time i talked with mez was when i was still in MOD (Or MINISTRY as they are called, which i made the name up before i left i may add) and i was helping out with the Pro-Hl league that they were running and naturally TP had a team in there. I was the in server admin and mez started the usual banter and it was a fun game to admin. First time we met at lan was i30, but at the time we diddnt even know each other and when we got back online it was like “Wait, THAT was YOU???!!!”. Ah good times. We then made a mix team for i31 consisting of me, Mez, xim, joff and the 5th slips my mind.. Aveng maybe? Anyway, we did terrible, almost taking a round from fnatic, but Xim thought it better to kill mez in the heat of battle. I was being pulled further and further into TP and we went to i32 with a fresh line-up!

The lineup was simple, Me, Gom8z, CreativE, WoLf and le3, we made up the now legendary AyD, a name that made everyone fearful. Now i had never even talked to let alone played with WoLf or le3 so it was an interesting LAN i must say. We acctually did quite well taking the “ones to watch” TCM into 3 overtimes but sadly losing out when everyones hands were shaking cause of nerves.. Now before, during and after that lan i never talked with le3 besides calling him what to do ingame. Dunno why i33 came along and i was poor. I had no money and i had big things in my mind. I wanted to go pro, get a good team and do well. I went to i33 with Team-Lo3. We did terribly coming around 50th (rofl).

Just before the coming of i34 me and mez got talking on MSN. One of us mentioned that we need a team for i34 and we both decided to make one. We knew of a retired gamer still wanting to play in the form of w1p and we had a wealth of other friends that fancied a crack at the w1p (haha). We had the players, we had the ambition, but we needed a name. Off the top of my head a name came to me… The Good Looking Gamers were born.

Thinking of my favorite LAN moment is hard, theres alot to choose from.. My Pint of vinegar downing, where i threw up EVERYWHERE then tried to clean it up only making it worse.. or the time me and jaFro were walking back from a club at like 2am arms around each other singing wonderwall only for it to stop once we saw a take out and both screamed “KEBAB!!!” but my fondest of TP LAN memories is still the thursday night looking for somewhere to sleep in the berkshire stand. We and mez finally found a dark room filled with tables. We made ourself a makeshift bed each with 6 or 7 chairs and used table cloths as sheets, one of the best nights sleeps ive had. We were woken up by caretakers cleaning the mess from the tables and generally wandering around the room. Me and mez looked at each other thinking we were in big trouble. In fact it was the opposite. The guys cleaning up offered us a cup of tea each and even the sweets and cakes from behind the bar. They turned out to be some of the nicest guys we met that lan.

I love Tplay cause of the people in it. Ive strayed in the past but i know where my home is. <3

Nath was short & sweet and to the point:

TwistedPlay Public time?

Gom8z rounded it up with this:

Oh and I wanna put some of my fondest memories like Boostey has because that made me chuckle….

Playing Charades in the TP house at about 3am in the morning watching lazygun trying to act out his word “Coming home to find your Wife having sex with a lesbian vampire”.
Smashing Myski at lan and Beating MoD in a overtime knockout match CYA MARCYBEAR!!
The Wheelbarrow Race of I36 – Basically One person in press up position, other holding his legs and do a lap around the stoneleigh lan hall!
Neon Night at i36 in some random club and finding out Maarcybear was the pop’n'lock king!
Ben0 & Floody just everything about the idiots!
Floody & Ruffles… best pairing i ever put in a team haha

Meeting Katalina & Playful for the first time & trying to hide from them in the camping area.
And simply everytime we all meet up for lan or just any random excuse to have a piss up!

So another article finished, the third of the week, and whilst really behind schedule, I really do hope people are enjoying reading these as they are good fun to do, prepare yourselves for the final two and they should be slightly smaller than the last two we have had, but it will wind you down in this epic Twisted Play week, a week like no other, and it kicks off our special series of articles over the next 5 months very nicely!
