I take a look at Twisted Play in detail, today is “Where it all began”.

So here it is finally, a week where we look into each community. Community Spotlight is the one project I wanted to do ever since Quickscope began, and now for the next 5 months I will be taking a look into each and every community. The project has 5 months of work, and if it proves successful, we will carry it on into next year, my aim currently is to start off with the most recognisable communities first, to give everyone the idea of what Community Spotlight wants to achieve. So Twisted Play week is this week, Rasta is the second community, then MOD, then we move swiftly on MAG, Froody, Nicey, Team Carrick & 3Man Clan make up the list so far. There will be a Christmas Special week over the festive season, so this is how advance planned this is currently!

So as I said we are about to embark on a journey through Twisted Play’s Past, Present & Future. We know Twisted Play best with Good Looking Gamers, Goddamn $exy Gamers, and generally as they like to think they are really good looking gamers. This first article takes a look into their past, how they formed, where it all began, what were their dreams & aspirations although Gom8z just told me on MSN that his dreams were filled with me, and where they wanted to head as a community at the time. Of course as per usual, I have a poke around and see what currently is happening at their website, to see what fun is being had, I stick up a thread for my third article which is due this week on Thursday, and I get a response from Gom8z which is short and sweet about their beginning!

TwistedPlay was formed when my cousin told me they had a few spare servers at his data hosting company and thought it might be a good idea to sell gaming servers (if anything just to make enough profit so we could have our own servers to play on). This all kicked off even before I had my own pc and it started with me sitting on the hlsw.exe monitor program just chatting away to people while they played. Well I guess my humourous immature jokery was enjoyable as the server became so busy that our active community was so busy that when I finally got a pc I couldnt get on the server as we had too many people constantly on it

Thus came about my beloved Server 2 – Custom Map server & The surf server and many more!

A lovely paragraph none the less, but what I wanted is something more in depth to provide everyone a pleasant viewing of what Twisted Play is really all about and why it all came around, so Gom8z promised to “jazz” it all up for me and provide me with something far more meaningful and more “interesting” for people to view the Twisted Play community like.

I suppose when it comes to creating a large community, one of a major power house communities in the UK, all you need is a few servers, get them incredibly busy, fuel the banter, and develop friendships. Short and sweet, and respective of this view Gom8z seems reluctant on “jazzing” up the whole thing. Over this week though, you will get to know Twisted Play far better than you anticipated, with video’s pictures (like above), and all kinds of memories and fondest moments of being inside Twisted Play from their beloved members. If anything Twisted Play kind of bucked the trend back at teX09 when Good Looking Gamer’s went to an European LAN, as “nobodies” in top team’s eyes, but in the Enemy Down community, GLG were the top dogs at the time, reigning supreme in the ladder and in EDCSSL and were the ones to beat. They went to teX and managed to grab a 9th – 12th placing, and ended up being noticed by several of Europe’s best, it essentialy put them on the CSS map for being talked about. When they followed it up at i38 they managed to actually pummel Fnatic and that is when Europe again took notice of these fun lovin criminals having a good time. It went against every singe rule book in CSS ever written (an ED team winning against top teams, WHAT?) and they ended up making a name for themselves, and creeping up on other big organisations in the UK. Gom8z had this to say:

Basically i think in most people’s eyes it seemed like we just got some money together and went to some tournament without thinking who we was up against.. We sat there reading all the cadred prediction threads putting us at the bottom of any seeding and going on about infused and Audio technia which had such an effect that Millen who was in our lineup decided to jump ship and join AT’s lineup much to the satisfaction of their team. That left us with a roster that only people in Enemydown knew bar x-zboard legend “W1p“. It was only when we got there did Corin mention he believed we were worth seeding due to our previous unnoticed results at previous events. From there we were able to sneak through our seeding and make it to a respectable 9-12th position almost upsetting MTW on dust2.

One thing does remain within Twisted Play’s vast history, is the fact that they are a bunch of friends who continually provide casual banter in the scene, and along with that managed to continually have fun playing the game they play and being friends outside of the game having so many good times at Alton Towers, the Twisted Play House, at LANs and so on. The list is endless here. If there is a community that could aptly describe the word “fun” then it would be Twisted Play. I have a Youtube video of them on a night out just having a good time somehwere on the MOD forums.

And there we have it, the first piece for the first of our special “Community Spotlight” series, over the next 5 days, there will be a special intimate interview with Gom8z who formed Twisted Play from the very start, then to follow on Wednesday we will have all of Twisted Play’s fondest memories along with some members describing Twisted Play to you the readers and what essentially makes them tick. On Thursday there will be a special article (or story) of how Twisted Play evolved into the community and on Friday to round up our week we will have a special piece on what makes Twisted Play today and what teams there currently are within the community, I do hope you enjoy reading these special pieces over the months, in a way that helps you understand other communities.
